VARIABLES
The calculation for turf differs from your yard's square footage because turf rolls come only in 15' widths and the grass blades on joined pieces must align. For example, a 17x25' area would need two 15x17' pieces, totaling 510 square feet, though the actual area is 425 square feet.
The bigger your area, the more it impacts the final cost. Turf prices vary widely, with differences up to $2 per square foot between the highest and lowest quality. We generally suggest budgeting for mid to high-grade turf for a more realistic look and longer durability.
Limited access to your yard, such as a staircase or steep slope, increases labor costs. Moving 15 tonnes of material becomes much more labor-intensive under such conditions. If possible, allowing a mini-excavator (which requires a 3'4" wide clearance) into your yard can help reduce these costs.
If it’s a low-traffic area in the front yard used mainly for aesthetics, it will cost less than a high-traffic area that doubles as a soccer field for the kids and a bathroom for the dog!
